there is a thaw ensuing
something frozen
dark spring rain
melting it down to the soil
I was born during a fierce storm
a child of electricity and renewal
able to walk through water
gliding into a space
I didn’t realize was there
moving as both my past and present
songbirds shout out
calling each other
back into their hiding places
I venture into the pour
soaking my braided hair
stepping so slowly
being watched by a man smoking
beneath the saturated apartment awning
scent of crab apple blossoms
translucent wet petals
untethered, floating
it should be a good awakening
a duck napping on the roof
